Hatzalah Volunteers Take Double Amputee on a Once in a Lifetime Yacht Trip
Volunteers from the United Hatzalah emergency medical services organization treated a 72-year-old double amputee on a specially equipped yacht to lift the spirits of the former amateur swimmer. Yehuda lost both his legs as the result of an infection from a medical procedure gone awry, and had been struggling emotionally, as well as physically, due to his new limitations. With a request from his wife, the United Hatzolah’s Ten Kavod program organized the trip on the yacht, which helped boost Yehuda’s spirits. The Ten Kavod program, which translates to Giving Honor, is staffed by fully trained medical volunteers and aims to increase the quality of life of elderly patients and Holocaust survivors by providing them with free medical checkups and companionship.
